All these Pensacola professionals achieved state presidency in their respective associations in 2006PENSACOLA, FL—Over 200 local members of the Escambia County Medical Society, Escambia/Santa Rosa Bar Association, and the Escambia Santa Rosa Dental Association met on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at New World Landing for Celebrating Pensacola Bay Area Leadership. These local professional associations of medicine, law, and dentistry were celebrating the unique, historical event of the simultaneous attainment of state presidency in 2006 by three Pensacola professionals: Troy Tippett, MD, president of the Florida Medical Association; Alan Bookman, Esq., president of the Florida Bar Association; and Dan Henry DDS, president of the Florida Dental Association.
Chamber of Commerce President Buzz Ritchie was the Master of Ceremonies. He introduced six speakers that evening. Dr. Jack Kotlarz, president of the Escambia County Medical Society; Dr. Kim Jernigan, president of the Escambia Santa Rosa Dental Association; Mr. Bill Stafford, Esq., president of the Escambia/Santa Rosa Bar Association each discussed the signature projects and community goals of their organizations. Then, Ritchie introduced each state president honoree, who discussed their goals, what they’ve observed during their travels around the state, and encouraged the members present to take their roles as leaders seriously, serving as models of community involvement and caring.
Dr. Norman Vickers entertained everyone with his fine keyboard talents during the social hour, while these attorneys, dentists, and doctors mingled and visited with old friends and met new ones. Ritchie acknowledged Dr. Mike Redmond who originated the idea to honor these community leaders through their professional associations. Other community leaders present were Rep. Holly Benson, Rep. Dave Murzin, Escambia County School Board member Gary Bergosh, former state Senator John Broxson, City Councilman PC Wu, Commissioner Bob Cole, and Gulf Breeze City Councilman Beverly Zimmern, among others.

Troy Tippett, M.D., a Pensacola neurosurgeon, is now the President of the Florida Medical Association (FMA), headquartered in Tallahassee, FL. A well-known leader among physicians, Dr. Tippett was the President of the local Escambia County Medical Society in 1996. He practices with the Neurosurgical Group, associated with both Baptist Hospital and Sacred Heart Hospital, in Pensacola, FL.Dr. Tippett has been actively promoting Florida healthcare issues for many years through the legislative process. Dr. Tippett received the highly coveted 2003 Distinguished Service Award from the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the highest honor bestowed upon a physician for the commitment to make a difference. A native of Missouri, he came to Pensacola in 1977, after completing residencies in neurosurgery and general surgery through the University of Tennessee in Memphis, TN, where he also graduated from medical school in 1969.
Dr. Tippett is not the first Escambia County physician to serve on the board of officers for the FMA. FMA Past Presidents from Escambia County include R. B. Hargis, MD in 1882; J.
